SUBMISSIONS FOR THE SECOND ISSUE OF

THE AUSTRALIAN POETRY JOURNAL ARE NOW OPEN

We are very happy to announce that submissions for the second issue of the Australian Poetry Journal are now open. The first issue, which received over 2000 entries, was a huge success and we are looking forward to making the second issue even better.

Our vision is to establish a well-respected journal of modern Australian poetry that is utilised by poets,  students of poetry and poetry enthusiasts alike. The journal will reflect current priorities and trends in the poetry industry.

Australian Poetry Members will receive the AP journal as part of their membership.

The next issue is due out in May 2012.

Submissions are open to all poets and poetry enthusiasts, not just members of Australian Poetry Ltd.

Submissions must be accompanied by a completed entry form and sent via post or email. See below:

Poems previously published (in hard copy or online) will not be accepted, nor will entries that are on offer to other publications or competitions are the time of submission.

There is a maximum submission of five poems per writer per issue. There is no line-count limit.

Writers will be paid for selected poems ($80 for poems up to 40 lines and $2 per line thereafter).

Entries close on 24 February 2012. Entries post-marked after this date will not be considered.

The first issue of the journal Australian Poetry Journal: Beginnings is on sale now and available for purchase from our website.

It showcases some of the best new poetry from around Australia, including poems by Les Murray, Sarah Day and John Kinsella, as well as work by international poets Christian Bök, Clive James and Jacob Polley.

With this and subsequent issues we hope to build the profile of the best Australian poetry both nationally and internationally.

EDITOR

We are very pleased to announce that Bronwyn Lea has been selected to be the Editor of the new Australian Poetry Journal.

There were numerous outstanding applicants for this position from all over the country, and we sincerely thank everyone who sent in their application. The selection panel was made up of Judith Beveridge, Martin Langford, Chris Wallace-Crabbe and Victoria Amy.

We send our congratulations to Bronwyn for the appointment and we look forward to working with her.

Based in Brisbane, Bronwyn is an award-winning author, editor, and critic. Her work has been widely published, anthologised, and translated into several languages. From 2003 to 2009 Bronwyn was Poetry Editor at the University of Queensland Press, and since 2005 she has been a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Queensland.
