The 2021 OutLoud Poetry Slam has gone digital!

Australian Poetry are coming together again with Emilie Zoey Baker to present our Digital youth poetry slam competition, OutLoud. For the second year in a row, we are also partnering with the wonderful Wheeler Centre, for our Heats and Slam Final in October!

Poetry is an excellent way for students to communicate with their peers and the wider community so they can be seen and heard (OUTLOUD!) Young people have so much to say and we can’t wait to give them the microphone.

We will be entering students in two categories:

Year 7-8

Year 9-12

The deadline for entries is October 12th 2021.

If you need some slamspiration there’s loads of brilliant past OutLoud performances here on our YouTube channel!

To cover costs we still need to charge a fee of $302.50 (incl GST) per school. However, you can enter up to ten students as either INDIVIDUALS or teams of up to five students. Parents can also enter children individually at $27.50 (inc GST) per student. The entries will be assessed by a professional panel of judges and feedback will be ensured in the initial round of judging.

There will be an ONLINE live Slam Final on 4th November 2021, 1pm to 2:30pm. This event will be open for the public, with tickets going on sale through the Wheeler Centre on the 9th of June. This event will also be available online for playback after the event.

The top schools will be published on the Australian Poetry website and there will be great prizes as usual – including the winning school having the opportunity to perform at the finals for the National Australian Slam Final, and a radio interview on ABC 774.

For any questions about registration, grouping or individual entries, or any concerns (anything administrative, really!) please email Emma Caskey at
