Commission, oversee and deliver the flagship poetry publications of Australian Poetry, Australia’s national poetry organisation.

 

Australian Poetry’s Board of Directors is seeking a Senior Editor to take responsibility for a suite of poetry publications that showcase the full breadth of poetry produced in Australia.

Australian Poetry (AP) is the peak national body for poetry in Australia. AP exists to support the full breadth of poetry produced in this country. Our role is to represent Australian poetry and its poets, nationally and internationally. Australian poetry is diverse and rich – both in its contemporary manifestations and its heritage. Our mission is to showcase and celebrate this.

 

The Role

 

Australian Poetry is seeking an experienced editor to join the organisation as its Senior Editor. Working collaboratively with the Chief Executive and Publisher, the Senior Editor will maintain and enhance the quality of AP’s flagship publications: the Australian Poetry Journal, the annual Best of Australian Poems, the Australian Poetry Subscribers’ Anthology and a growing program of electronic publication.

 

Working in partnership the Chief Executive/Publisher, the Senior Editor will take responsibility for Australian Poetry’s publication program and maintain and enhance its quality and reputation.

Australian Poetry values flexible working arrangements that benefit staff and the organisation. While the AP office is located in the Wheeler Centre, Melbourne, AP is open to discussing a remote working component to the senior editor’s work. The position will be between 0.8 and 1 full-time equivalent hours, negotiable with the successful applicant.

 

The Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will be an experienced editor with substantial experience in poetry publication and literary journals. They will bring a keen editorial eye, an inclusive and creative approach, and a passion for poetry in Australia.

 

Key skills and experience include:

  • A proven track record of leading successful editorial projects
  • Experience in digital media
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a small team
  • A good understanding of Australian poetry and its community.
