In an exciting phase AP is releasing a range of stunning publications at this time.
For Subscribers and Contributors to Australian Poetry Journal 13.1—‘place, nonplace’ (guest editors Sara M Saleh, Autumn Royal) and Australian Poetry Anthology 7 2024 (guest editors Andy Jackson, Marcella Polain, with regional Victorian focus) keep your eyes on your inboxes and postal boxes. Digital versions of both volumes are now being released, with print copies in the mail. In APJ 13.1, Sara Mansour and Bilal Hafda have also curated a separate suite of poems from Bankstown Poetry Slam, the largest slam in the Southern Hemisphere.
Online, and with our close partner Cordite Poetry Review, Luke Patterson’s guest edited TELL ME LIKE YOU MEAN IT 7 2024 is also close to publication, remembering that this annual U30s/emerging poets’ digital book garners 5,000+ reads. Deep gratitude we extend to all the guest editors, also to Kent MacCarter at Cordite, who co-publishes TMLYMI with us. We also thank as always our editorial team with designer Chris Edwards having ushered in a scintillating cover approach in the past two years. Here, APJ 13.1 showcases the work of renowned First Nations painter, elder and healer, Betty Muffler, with full permissions in place; and APA 11 2024 featuring the collages of long-time, highly respected poet and visual artist Pam Brown.
Our annual Best of Australian Poems 2024 is also in production with guest editors Kate Lilley and Shastra Deo set to read thousands of poems, including those thousands from our public call-out, to select the final 100 that will feature in this year’s volume (pub date 1 December 2024). Cover art by Sophie Gaur, design by Chris Edwards.
Finally, heading into proof stages is Australian Poetry Journal 13.2—‘desire’, guest edited by Ellen van Neerven and featuring stunning poetry gathered by EvN that is inspired by what desire and poetry may be in combination and interweave. Guest artist is Bella Li.
Australian Poetry’s publications and festival events annual program is supported by Creative Australia, Creative Victoria, Copyright Agency Cultural Fund and private patrons.
